projects > who do you see now?
Your presence is being captured!

One might ask why, when, what, where or who?

Society is overloaded with video information. Web cameras and surveillance cameras are extending the boundaries of spaces and time. It bestows one with sense of security, but at the same time there are a number of issues one might consider. Invasion of privacy or the will of the individual is disregarded.

As an interactive artist, I often observe participants in my work. Older patrons commonly bring with them pre-developed negative thoughts toward the use of cameras which interfere with my intensions.

Kids, on the other hand, find pleasure seeing themselves through cameras without hesitation. Bentham, a utilitarian theorist; believes human beings are intrinsically bound to seek pleasure and avoid pain.

It’s not my interest to change participants’ pre-conceived ideas and thoughts about cameras, but I am fascinated by people’s reaction to a camera in a new environment where recognition of likeness is not the primary function.
